8 Brave Women

In 2015, when Facebook and Instagram censored female nipples, thousands of women waged a war against their hypocrisy with Free The Nipple Movement.

In order to protest the ban, young women started posting photos of their nipples on social media.

But they were not doing the one thing that mattered most before showing their breasts to the world – checking them for signs of cancer. 8 breast cancer survivors saw the opportunity in this movement to make these young women aware of the breast cancer risks and encourage them to do breast self-examination.

Working with the Association Against Breast Cancer, they decided to intercept the Free The Nipple Movement.
They took pictures of themselves that showed their battle against breast cancer, and then every single post on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter with #freethenipple was intercepted with the message #savethenipple.
